Obituary for Susan Karol Smith
Susan Karol Smith, 68, of Adel, Iowa passed away August 19, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston after a short battle with cancer. Visitation will be held 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the Dexter United Methodist Church in Dexter. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 10:00 A.M. at the Church. A private family burial will take place at Dexter Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan Smith Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com. Susan was born August 5, 1948 to Jack and Jean Melton Smith in State Center, Iowa. She grew up in Adel, Iowa where she attended Adel High School. While in school, Susan excelled in softball, basketball and track. She was united in marriage to Gary Lemon in 1965 and together they became the proud parents of three children, Suzi, Robert and William. After their marriage they moved to Dexter and made their home. Susan was a homemaker, worked for the ASCS office in Adel and prepared taxes from her home. The past few years of Susan’s life was spent in Adel. Susan enjoyed drawing, being outdoors, and playing sports when she was younger, crocheting, crossword puzzles, playing pool. She loved winning and was very competitive even if it were playing a game of pool with the kids. Other enjoyments in life were going to her grandma Pauline’s house, watching old movies until wee hours in the morning, rocks, flowers, and animals, but most important was her love for her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jack and Jean Smith.
Susan leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Suzi (Terry) Carmichael of Perry, Iowa, Robert Lemon of Redfield, Iowa and William (Monika) Lemon of Boonville, Iowa; grandchildren, Chris (Sara) Carmichael, Josh Carmichael, Beth Lappegard, Bryce Carmichael, Courtney (Adam) Christensen, Mitchell Lemon, Alex Lemon, Zack Lemon, Ashley (Logan) Kunzler, Kaliah Lemon and Kasey Hoyt; great grandchildren, Nicholas Carmichael, Jasmine Carmichael, Amber Carmichael, Freya Christensen, Nathaniel Kunzler, Elektra Kunzler, Gabriel Kunzler, Makenna Lemon, Keely Lemon, and Carson Lemon; siblings, Kip Smith of Oklahoma, Ron Smith of Adel, Syd Cherry of Adel, and Dan Smith of Oklahoma and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
