Susan Kay Plagman, 71, of Casey passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Tuesday, September 20th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, September 21st at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial with military honors will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Casey. Susan was born on September 2, 1951 to Earl, Sr. and Juanita Plagman at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. She attended Audubon schools and later attended Adair-Casey Community School, graduating with the class of 1969. Following graduation, Susan attended Stewart School of Cosmetology in Council Bluffs and practiced cosmetology in Casey and Adair until she joined the United States Army in 1974. She was honorably discharged attaining the rank of SP 4 in 1976.
The majority of her working life was at Schafer Systems / Owner Revolutions retiring in July, 2019. She kept busy working for Rolling Hills Bank, AC Elementary School and the AC-GC Junior High. Susan and brother Jerry were also known for their lawn care service in Casey.
She was the baker and decorator of hundreds of birthday cakes and pies. Sewing and gardening were her joys right after family. She was first in line to take care of whoever needed it. Her pets were a close second – sometimes first! Her compassion was always foremost.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl, Sr. and Juanita Plagman; grandparents, Chris Plagman and Ellis and Estella Randel; and great-grandparents: Johannes and Wilhamia Plagman, Howard and Mary Shoesmith and John Powell and Nellie Randel.
She is survived by her siblings: Patsy (Dennis) Russo of Clive, Barbara (Jimmie) Majerus of Des Moines, Roy (Leanna) Plagman of Guthrie Center, Jerry Plagman of Casey, JoAnn Hansen of Adel and Earl (Angie) Plagman Jr. of Casey; step-daughter, Jessica Denney; granddaughter, Jovie Denney; aunts and uncles: Ramonia Barr, Dwaine and Lena Randel, Kenneth Randel and Larry Randel; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, countless cousins, and many friends that will miss her dearly.
