Theodore “Ted” Melvin Peterson Jr. passed away at the age of 84 on Saturday December 28, 2024 at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa surrounded by his son Josh & ex-wife Norilee, he was born October 24, 1940 in Villisca, Iowa to Theodore & Margie (Gay) Peterson, he suffered from COPD for 5 years, he loved working with his hands, listening to his TV programs Jeopardy; Price is Right; Let’s Make A Deal, he enjoyed listening to his talking books and listening to his ball games & sometimes he would have a potty mouth when they didn’t go his way, he listened daily to the Elephant Shop Trading Post in Shenandoah to listen for some good deals, when Josh was a baby the disc jockey nicknamed him Mr. Mom and it always made him smile.

Also, he loved his cats, especially Priscilla who loved to snuggle up next to his face and purr, he grew up in southwest Iowa and had a farm in Clarinda and also raised pigs, he helped his dad build his parents’ house outside of Villisca. He went to country school and attended Villisca High School and later received his GED. He leaves to mourn his son Joshua, ex-wife Norilee Williamson, his sister Phyllis of New Mexico, a brother Steve of Washington, Karen Sundberg of Red Oak, Richard Crouse of Nodaway, Warren Crouse of Missouri, Judy Crouse of Iowa, granddaughter Courtney Riley of Oklahoma, 4 grandchildren and one on the way, his friend & classmate Bill Scott of Menan, Idaho, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He will solely be missed by his previous coworkers at the Commission for the Blind and all who met him in Stuart. People in Stuart would often see him walking down the street with his cane as he went to the store and the post office, he had such a great outlook on life in spite of his blindness and he could fix anything and everything, he was such a great inspiration to all that knew him. Josh and I would like to extend a very thank you to his caregiver Barb Boss for helping him with his daily household duties and going to the grocery store when needed.

Also, a very special thank you to Nurse Nikki Colby of Unity Point At-Home and also for the care that was given to him by the ICU staff at Lutheran Hospital also the Stuart Rescue Squad for the many trips that was made to the hospital.

We were so very blessed to have Ted in our lives and he will be solely missed by all who knew and loved him. There will be a memorial service for Ted later in 2025 for family and friends.
