Vera was born on November 17, 1934 to Raymond and Ada (DeVries) O’Toole in Norton, Kansas. As a young girl she lived in numerous places while her mother was a teacher. Ada later married Joe Eversull and the family settled in Stuart when Vera was 11. She attended Stuart High School and graduated with the class of 1952. Vera was very active in high school; she was in the debate club, band majorette, played basketball and wrote several articles in the high school newspaper. They lastly settled in Stuart in 1967. Vera was united in marriage to Marvin Whetstone in 1976. Vera and Marvin farmed outside of Stuart.

Vera loved crafts of all kinds. She was a master seamstress and designed her own wedding dress. She enjoyed doing needlepoint, crocheting, woodworking, beading, macrame, and tending to her plants. In her later years, she was involved in philanthropy especially to organizations involving children and wildlife.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and both husbands, John Wormley and Marvin Whetstone.
