Vickie Lee (Gomez) O’Brien, 76 of Springfield, Missouri formerly of Stuart passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 23rd at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Funeral will follow at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be in the South Oak Grove Cemetery in Stuart. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency. Vickie was born in Abilene, Kansas on May 27, 1948 to John and Goldie (Jacobson) Gomez. Soon after, the Gomez family settled in Stuart, Iowa, where Vickie proudly graduated from Stuart High School, Class of ‘66. She married Charles O’Brien on July 15, 1967, welcoming Kim, Kelly and Kevin in the following years. The family moved to the Springfield, Mo area in 1978, where Vickie continued her education at Missouri State University. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in 1983, then taught for many years in Miller, Greenfield and finally Central High School in Springfield, adding a Master’s of Science in 1992 along the way. She enjoyed spending time with the Red Hat Ladies and her brunch friends, as well as her Class of ‘66 friends and Iowa family.
Vickie will be missed for her sharp sense of humor, stubbornness, and her fierce love for her family. She never backed down from a political argument or the chance to watch a nature show. She is survived by her daughters Kim Hicks (Dusty) and Kelly Duncan (Bill); son Kevin O’Brien (Eddie); granddaughters Alexa Lambers and Dakota Hugenot; grandson Benjamin Hugenot; great grandchildren Jordyn and Axel; her ex-husband Chuck, and her step grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces April (Derek) and Sarah; nephews Ross, Nick (Lizzie), Chris (Kristie). She was beloved by her sisters Charlene Beeson, Deb Elliot (Roger), Audrey Gomez (Larry) and her twin brother Rick Gomez (BillieJo). She was preceded in death by her parents John and Goldie Gomez.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart, Iowa. A celebration of life will be held after burial at Johnie’s Tap.
