Viola Heins, 90 of Stuart passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023 at MercyOne West Lakes Hospital. Visitation will be held from 1-2 P.M. on Friday, June 16th at All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart. Funeral Mass will be held at 2 P.M. on Friday, June 16th at All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Stuart. Memorial contributions may be directed to All Saints Catholic Church to be used for the church library. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Viola Veasman Heins was born April 7, 1933 in Denison, Iowa to Paul Veasman and Catherine Kimmen Veasman. Viola was a 1951 graduate of Churdan, Iowa High School. After graduation Viola lived near Chicago and worked for C.B. & Q Railroad until 1954.
Viola married Paul Heins on May 8, 1954. Their marriage was blessed with three children including Gina (Dennis) Charlet of Adel, David of Des Moines, and Deanna (Brian Jennings) of Baltimore, MD. They were later blessed with five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren (two by marriage).
Viola was one of six children born to Catherine and Paul Veasman. Siblings included Loretta Garreau of Guthrie Center; Lucille Johnson of Indianola; Dorothy Naberhaus of Indianola Rita Hodoval of Crystal Lake, IL, and Paul Jr. from Indianola; all of whom have gone to Heaven.
After Viola’s mom passed away, her father Paul married Lura Gliem. They had 13 children together. Those surviving are: Maxine Edwards of Indianola; Virginia Smith of Weldon, Donna Reick of Des Moines, Larry of Indianola, Patricia Galbert of Albany, GA and Mike of Colfax. Those in Heaven include: Mildred Nichols of Joliet, IL; Darleen Reeves of Indianola, Julie Zwierzyski of Illinois, Clara Navratil of Des Moines, Carolyn Smith of Des Moines, Mary Ellen Lehman of Des Moines and John of Indianola.
After raising her children, Viola worked for 19 years for Guthrie County Public Health and later seven years for Genesis Development.
Viola attended All Saints Church in Stuart. Her activities at church included coordinating bible study and she established a church library. She enjoyed life as a farmer’s wife with gardening, canning, and raising a family. She enjoyed her time as an active member of the Sunshine Club.
Viola is preceded in death by her husband, Paul; daughter, Gina Charlet and grandson, John Heins. Surviving are her son, David and daughter, Deanna as well as her remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
