Obituary for William Lee Lloyd
William Lee Lloyd, loving husband, father, and friend, peacefully passed away April 28th, 2020 in the country home he designed and built. Bill was born September 8th, 1948 in Jefferson, IA to Ada (Kopaska) and Leroy Lloyd. He attended Guthrie Center Community Schools and graduated from Westmar College in LeMars, IA.
Bill enjoyed continuing his family’s tradition by owning the “Beef ‘n Brew” restaurant and “The Office” bar in Guthrie Center until 1985. This highlights his respect for tradition, the joy of meeting new people, and the importance he placed on hard work. Over time, he expanded those talents to his love of construction. During this time, Bill enjoyed working for the City of Urbandale as a Building Inspector and with the State of Iowa Fire Marshall Division as an International Building Plans Examiner. Bill also expressed a strong sense of community. Over his life, he served as Guthrie Center Mayor and contributed 15 years volunteering on the Guthrie Center Fire Department. He was a mentor, teacher, and friend to all.
In 1986, Bill married the love of his life, Regina (Klemm). They were the first couple to marry at the Panora Historical Village church. Bill and Regina spent their time together travelling and challenging each other to expand their creative drives. Over the years, Bill had interests as a pilot, motorcycle enthusiast, scuba diver, and skier. In retirement, he enjoyed creating pens, knives, and carvings using natural materials.
Of his marriage, he was blessed with three daughters; Katie Lloyd, Omaha, NE, Jacqueline (Daniel) Baer, Winterset, IA, and Jenifer (Peter) Gunther, Lindenhurst, IL. He had nine grandchildren, Juniper Winchester, Ella and Jackson Baer, and Julian, Tristan, Virginia, Joseph, Katelyn, and Riley Gunther. He will be missed by his mother-in-law, Virginia Klemm, brother-in-law John Klemm, extended family, and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on his favorite holiday, the 4th of July at his home in Linden. We will fire his cannon for the last time and reminisce of good times.
Memorial contributions can be directed to the William Lloyd Memorial Fund and sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
