Obituary for Carolyn Ruth Anker
Carolyn Ruth Anker, 93 of Earlham passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Azira Health Care in Winterset. Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Monday, February 17th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Earlham. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, February 18th at the Earlham Presbyterian Church. Carolyn will be interred along with her husband Bud, who preceded her in death in 2006, following the service at the Earlham Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Earlham Presbyterian Church. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com
Carolyn was born on June 9, 1926 to Harry and Marcia (Cook) Frey in rural Madison County. She attended Earlham schools and graduated from Earlham High School. Following graduation she was united in marriage to Earl “Bud” Anker in 1944. Carolyn and Bud moved to Florida shortly after their wedding so that Bud could complete his military service. They returned to Earlham in the mid 1940's to begin their family. To this union three children were born: Marcia, Gary, and Jeff.
Carolyn eventually moved to Madison Square Assisted Living in Winterset in 2013.
Carolyn worked at a number of local businesses including: Montross Pharmacy, Schalkle's Clothing, Branam Hardware Store and assisted Bud with the accounting at their business, Anker's Service; most of her working years were spent raising her children. She was a member of Chautauqua Club, Red Hat Club and the Earlham Presbyterian Church where she was an active member of the Ladies Aide. Carolyn enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading and volunteering at the Earlham Public Library. Most of all she treasured time she was able to spend with her entire family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 60+ years, Bud; siblings, Phyllis Werts and Harold Frey.
Carolyn leaves behind her children: Marcia Hewitt of Urbandale, Gary (Nancy) Anker of Winterset and Jeff (Marcia) Anker of Littleton, CO; grandchildren: Scott (Jennifer) Cooley, Laura (Scott) Tryon, David (Sarah) Anker, Betsy (Derek) Little, Bailey (Tony) Krull, Sam (Missy) Anker, Kelyn Anker and Sutton Anker; great-grandchildren: Tanner (Shyanne) Cooley, Briley Tryon, Carter Tryon, Aidan Cooley, Boston Anker, Summer Little, Jaxx Little, Charlie Anker, Kannon Anker, Kinnick Krull, Tinley Krull, Carson Anker, Liam Anker; great-great-granddaughter, Brystol Cooley; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
