Obituary for Wilma Opal Baker
Wilma Opal (Sneathen) Baker, of Stuart, Iowa died October 22, 2016 in Storm Lake, Iowa after several years’ struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Dexter. The family suggests memorials to the Redfield American Legion and/or the Snack Sack Program at the Redfield Christian Church, both of Redfield, Iowa. She was born September 19, 1929 in Lenox, Iowa to Nora and Charlie Sneathen. She married Robert M. Baker on June 29, 1947 in Redfield, Iowa. Robert preceded her in death in 2000.

Wilma attended school in Redfield, Iowa and graduated from Redfield High School in 1947. After they wed, Wilma and Bob continued to live in Redfield for many years. Wilma worked as a bookkeeper for the Redfield Clinic, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and Boyer Petroleum. She retired in 1988. Wilma’s favorite pastimes were cooking for her loved ones, caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, watching them participate in activities, and traveling in the motorhome she and Bob purchased after retirement. Wilma and Bob spent many happy retirement years in Alamo, Texas before moving back to Redfield in 1998.

Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; a brother Merle Sneathen; and sisters Thelma Newberg and Lanora Sneathen. She is survived by her daughters Terese Grant (Warren) of Grinnell, Iowa; Pam Danielson (Terry) of Redfield, Iowa; and Sandy Baker (Vicki) of Lawrence, KS; grandchildren Traca Waddell (Chad); Mike Madren (Cindy); Aaron Grant (Melissa); Ryan Grant (Ahn); nine great grandchildren; and sister Elsie Hutzell of Adel, Iowa.
