Winnie was born on November 26, 1924 in Walnut Township to John and Faye Morris. As a child she helped tend to family farm, she battled childhood Polio and rode county ambulances to Iowa City. She graduated from Menlo High School and went on to college to become a school teacher before she met her future husband Arnold. The two were married in a simple ceremony on June 3, 1944, a union that would last over 65 years until Arnold’s death in 2010. Their marriage saw the birth of five children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was an active member in her community, supplying chicken eggs to many and being a friendly face at the local Lutheran Church in Casey. She was a founding member of the O.D.O. Club as well as its oldest member. She was also a lifetime member of the LWML and the Casey Women’s Club.

Her life saw the advent of television, the Great Depression, World War II and all wars after, the birth of the Atomic Age, 15 presidents, the moon landing, the rise and fall of Communism and the coming of a new millennium. More importantly though she was the matriarch of the family; a strong figure that many aspired to be like and ensured things were done. Ever self-reliant and strong willed, she left on her own terms. We can all be lucky to live such full lives.

Winnie was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; son, Rickie; parents, John and Faye Morris; brothers Vern and Jack Morris; sister, Beulah Creason; son-in-law, Jon Nopoulos. She is survived by her son Bruce (Sandy) Schmeling of Casey; daughter, Rita (Larry) Carpenter of Rockbridge, MO; son, Kenny (Juanita) Schmeling of Des Moines; and daughter, Donna (Kim) Hester of Casey; She is also survived by her grandchildren: Julie Schmeling, Jennifer (John) King, Jolene (Ben) Ketchum, Teresa (DJ) Cline, Tony Nopoulos, Nick (Megin) Nopoulos, Kenna Schmeling and fiancé Anthony Mazzarella, and Samantha (Ray) Monson; and great grandchildren: Ashlyn, Elijah, Arianna, Parker, Marie, Katelynn, Raelynne, Daphne and Halas; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Betty) Schmeling; sister-in-law, Verna Fett and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends that will miss her dearly.
