Obituary for Charles Odell Tuffin
Charles Odell Tuffin, 65 of Waukee, formerly of Casey passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Mercy West Lakes Hospital in West Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Wednesday, January 18th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Graveside service will be held at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Guthrie County Conservation Board and sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, IA 50250. Charles was born on October 15, 1951 in Jefferson, Iowa to Dorothea and J. Edward Tuffin. He was the fifth of ten children. He attended Guthrie Center Schools and graduated from Guthrie Center High School with the class of 1969. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably from 1972 to 1978. Following his discharge he moved back to Casey. On March 17, 1979 he was united in marriage to Joline Hough. To this union two children were born: Nathan(35) and Emily(32).
Charles was an avid reader and outdoorsman. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and taking them fishing. He worked many years as a mechanic and drove a school bus for Stuart-Menlo Schools. He was lastly employed by Stivers Ford Lincoln in Waukee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister; Sarah Rettig, sister-in-law; Jane Tuffin, nephew; Ed Brown and nieces; Joy Lynn Brown and Debbie Ostroski.
Charles leaves behind his loving wife, Joline Tuffin of Waukee; son, Nathan Tuffin; daughter, Emily (Phillip) James; granddaughter, Noelle James; grandson, Garrett James; brothers: Wendell Tuffin, Kenneth (Elizabeth) Tuffin, Robert (Pat) Tuffin, Tom (Jan) Tuffin; sisters: Margaret Aldrich, Joanne Brown, Marilyne (Bruce) Butler, Ruth (Ralph) O’Donnell; brother-in-law, Vern Rettig; many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends that will miss him dearly.
