Obituary for Berneice Imogene Osler
Berneice Imogene Osler, 92 of Redfield passed away February 7, 2017 after battling cancer. Berneice died peacefully at home surrounded by her children. Celebration of life visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on Sunday, February 12th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Dexter. Graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, February 13th at East Linn Cemetery in Redfield. Luncheon will be served at the Redfield Legion Hall following the services. At the family’s request those attending the visitation and service should dress casual to honor Berneice since her favorite attire was always sweatshirts and blue jeans. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Berneice Osler.
Berneice (Kelly) Osler was born on October 30, 1924 in Bagley, Iowa to William and Mary (Beatty) Kelly. Berneice spent her childhood and teenage years in Guthrie Center, Bagley and Yale areas before moving with her family to Redfield.
Berneice met her future husband Harold Osler in Redfield and they were married in September, 1941. Four children were born of this union. Berneice was a stay at home mom raising her kids and resuming the daily household duties. Berneice also assisted in the care of her younger brother Jack and brother-in-law Fletcher for a period of time.
In 1961, Berneice and Harold took ownership of the Standard Oil gas station in Redfield and ran it for many years. Berneice was a driving force in making this business a success. She worked alongside with her husband working long hours while still being a mom and wife. Berneice always had a smile and a welcoming personality to customers, and established many long lasting relationships with in the Redfield community. She will be missed by many.
Berneice, otherwise known as Grandma Moo, is survived by her children: Joy (Jim) Greenslade of Adel, Judy Ruch (Fudd) of Rapid City, SD and Bill Osler of Redfield; grandsons: Rob Hughlette, Chris (Ann) Greenslade, Tony Osler, Eric (Kelly) Soults and Josh (Kristina) Ruch; great-grandchildren: Kade, Lily, Sophia, Carter, Claire, Callen, Isabelle, Evelyn and Avery; special extended family, Pam Osler Brown and Ethan Madden.
Berneice was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; husband, Harold and son, Skip.
