Mary J. Moffitt, 59, of Stuart passed away August 3, 2020 at her home in Stuart. Per her wishes direct cremation has taken place at Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Stuart. Services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Moffit Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Mary was born October 18, 1960 in Dexter, Iowa to Loren and Tamiko “Tammy” (Shimagori) Skellenger. She grew up in Menlo graduating from Stuart-Menlo High School with the class of 1979. Mary was united in marriage to Merle Burris on December 31, 1985 in Adair, Iowa and following their marriage they lived in in Menlo prior to making their home in Stuart. She worked in the Fraud Department at Sears, Hometown Insurance Company, Varley’s Law Office and Haven’s Accounting Firm in Greenfield before retiring. Mary enjoyed reading, crocheting, puppy dogs, traveling, trying different restaurants and spending time with her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, Loren Skellenger; cousins, Tereick “Tusk” Skellenger and Max Skellenger; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruth and Jim Burris.

Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, Merle Burris of Stuart; mother, Tammy Skellenger of Menlo; sister, Judy Skellenger of Menlo; brother-in-law, Joe (Char) Burris of Tennessee; sister-in-law, Jeannette (Gary) Behrens of Texas; brother-in-law, Randy (Imedla) Burris of Texas; sister-in-law, Tammie (Dana) Crousse of Fort Dodge; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends that will miss her dearly.
