Shirley Arlene (Westphal) Williams was born November 11, 1934 to Clyde and Ellen (Brooks-Bliese) Westphal on their farm near Greenfield, Iowa. She passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022 at Ridgewood Health Center in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
Shirley attended country school a half mile from home K-through 6th grade. She finished her elementary education at Richland Consolidated School. She then graduated from Greenfield High School in 1953.
Shirley married Elbert Williams at Fairview Church on June 1, 1952. They lived on Elbert’s family farm south of Stuart, IA. On their first wedding anniversary Elbert received his draft notice to the U.S. Army. After training he was stationed in Germany. Shirley joined him overseas for the duration of his service were they made lifetime Army friends. Upon their return from Germany in 1955 they purchased and settled on their farm just south of Menlo, IA. It was there that they spent a lifetime working closely together on their dairy farm. And it was there on July 26, 1959 their daughter Marcella was born and raised. Shirley was not only a homemaker and great cook. But could often be found working the farm right alongside of Elbert. She loved her yard where she spent much time working the soil, making it beautiful with many flowers. Those who used to drive by their home will remember the road bank filled with a colorful assortment of flowers.
Shirley was an active and long standing member of the Guthrie Center Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Her church family was very dear and near to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Ellen Westphal, her husband Elbert Williams, her brother Earl Westphal, and nephew Tim Christensen. She leaves behind her daughter Marcella (Williams) Holland and Son-in-Law Carl Holland, three Grandchildren Reggie Holland of Dillsboro, IN - Justin and (Brooke) Holland of Chattanooga, TN - Emily and (Aaron) Schorsch of Georgetown, KY. Great Grandchildren Piers and Coraline Holland of Chattanooga, TN - Aidan, Addison, Avery, and Abbott Schorsch of Georgetown, KY. Her Sister Beverly (Westphal) Christensen, Sister-in-Law Darlene (Ruth) Westphal, Sister-in-Law Shirley (Fink) Williams, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral service will be held at 3:30 P.M. on Monday, April 11th at Jefferson Center Cemetery, rural Menlo. Following the service a meal will be served at the Jefferson Center Church. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfunealhome.com.
