Obituary for Barbara Jean Cline
Barbara Jean (Thulin) Cline, 96, of Menlo, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Glen Oaks Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Urbandale, IA. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Stuart Chapel. Funeral services will follow the service at 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Rosehill Cemetery in Menlo. Barbara Jean Thulin Cline was the youngest of six children born in Stuart, IA to Nels Alfred and Ida Caroline (Low) Thulin on March 26, 1921.

Barbara was raised in the Stuart Congregational Church and graduated from Stuart High School in 1939. After graduation, she attended a business school in Des Moines, IA. She held several jobs in the Stuart and Menlo areas over her lifetime. She retired from being a secretary at the Stuart-Menlo School District in 1983 after several years of service.

On September 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to W. LeRoy Cline in El Paso, TX. After WWII, she and LeRoy made their home in Menlo, IA where they raised their three children. Barbara was active in several Ladies Circles at the United Methodist Church in Menlo and also a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 511.

Barbara will long be remembered as an excellent cook and an accomplished seamstress. In the summer, she and LeRoy enjoyed working in their large garden together. Barbara and LeRoy always welcomed family and friends into their home for meals and overnight stays. Barbara enjoyed helping and being with her family and friends, and especially her grandchildren. A favorite enjoyment was spending time visiting and sharing recipes, sewing and knitting projects with her sister, Wini. She loved her family deeply and was always there for them. She will be sorely missed.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 51 years, W. LeRoy Cline on November 13, 1992. Her infant great grandson, Parker James Miller. Her parents, Alfred and Ida Thulin and brothers: Warren Thulin; Samuel Thulin; Harold Thulin; Robert Thulin and sister Winifred Thulin Grant.

She is survived by her children: Darrell Cline of Madrid, IA; Denise Miller (Stu Stumberg) of Menlo, IA and Dennis (Shirley) Cline of Stuart, IA. Also, seven grandchildren: Corey (Lacey) Miller; Donna (Jeff) Kuster; Tracy (Erin) Miller; Lee Cline; Heather (Joseph) Schaffer; Heath Cline; and Tiffany Miller. Also, nine great grandchildren: Olivia Miller; Keigan Miller; Addisyn Miller; Taylor Mason; Abram Miller; Caroline Cline; Valerie Kuster; Sam Schaffer; Adalyn Schaffer and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Officiating the services will be Pastor LaTonya Caldron of the Stuart-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Stuart. Casket Bearers are Barbara’s grandchildren, Corey Miller, Tracy Miller, Lee Cline, Heath Cline, Joe Schaffer and Jeff Kuster. Honorary Casket Bearers are Donna Kuster and Heather Schaffer. Music played will be “You Raise Me Up”, “How Great Thou Art” and “In The Garden”.
