Wally as he was known by family and friends was born March 19, 1925 in Winterset, Iowa to Earl H. and Blanche Irene Davis Dick. Wally was raised in the Winterset area where he attended Winterset High School. Wally was united in marriage to Irene Mae Smith in 1944 and after their marriage they lived on a farm in rural Lorimor, Iowa until the early 1950’s when they moved to Winterset. Wally was employed at M. Young’s Elevator in Winterset before starting his own trucking company which he owned and operated for 20 years. Wally then was employed by the Department of Agriculture for the State of Iowa and was the Director of Bonded Warehouse Division. Wally enjoyed this work and enjoyed being able to travel the state inspecting grain elevators. Wally retired from the state after 27 years of service. Irene passed away in 1975 and on June 19, 1977, Wally married Betty Wolf Vanderlinden and together they lived in Des Moines before making their home near Douds, Iowa. Post retirement was spent raising Registered Red Angus cattle on their farm. In 2007, they sold the farm and moved to Stuart where they made their home. Wally was a member of the Stuart-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, the Odd Fellows, Iowa Red Angus Association, past president of the American Association of Warehouse Control Officers “AAWCO”, and past chairman of the Madison County Democratic Party. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and dancing which he taught in Des Moines for several years, and spending time with family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl Dick and Irene Banks, his first wife, Irene, sister, Marjorie Paullin and daughter-in-law, Barbara Dick.

Wally leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Betty Dick of Stuart; two sons, Marv (Ronalda) Dick of Earlham, Iowa and Mike (Pam) of Urbandale, Iowa; two daughters, Susan (Tom) Ballard of Altoona, Iowa and Kalyn (Larry) Duke of Santee, California; sister, Patti Harsh of Adel, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends all of whom will miss him greatly. (Arrangements: Johnson Family Funeral Home – Stuart Chapel).
