Deloris was born August 3, 1939, in Adair, Iowa. She was the fifth of ten children born to Don and Harriett (Miller) Wright. The family lived on farms in Adair and Guthrie Counties. Deloris attended rural schools and graduated from Menlo Consolidated High School.
Deloris met Earl Jacobson through mutual friends. Their first date was a donkey softball game. They were married on April 4, 1958. They made their home in Menlo. Deloris worked at the café attached to the Kalbach Oil Station. One evening, she was working alone about closing time when a group came into the cafe. To her surprise, it was Patsy Cline’s touring group.
When the youngest of her six sons was school-aged, she started working part-time for the United States Postal Service as a clerk in the Menlo Post Office, later transferring to the Bulk Mail Center in Urbandale as a processor and then a time and attendance clerk. She worked for the Post Office for 33 years, retiring in 1998.
For many years, Deloris was a Scout Den Mother and MYF leader. After retiring, she and Earl spent many years volunteering with the Iditarod Race in Alaska. They also ran the time clock for high school football games and received the “Friend of the School” honor from the Iowa High School Athletic Association in 2011. Deloris loved travelling, camping and spending time with her family.
