Known to family and friends as “Arnold”. Arnold was born August 16, 1929 in Perry, Iowa to Frank and Lydia (Boone) Schlichter. He attended school at Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School with the class of 1947. Arnold worked for Firestone Company in Des Moines, Iowa. He retired from Firestone in 1980 at the age of 51. Arnold loved the farm life and after retiring, he continued farming around the Dexter, Iowa area. Arnold was united in marriage to Myra Sparkman of Woodward on June 1, 1952 in Woodward. After retiring Arnold and Myra traveled to Florida, Virginia, and Arizona for the winter months for many years. He loved working in his garage on tractors and having the guys stop by and visit. He enjoyed going to auctions, especially if tractors were involved. He spent a lot of mornings at Burger King eating breakfast, drinking coffee and visiting with friends. He enjoyed watching NASCAR mostly with his eyes closed. Arnold enjoyed many things throughout his life, but his most prized possession was his family.
Arnold is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Myra of Stuart; children, Peggy Schlichter of Stuart, Donald Schlichter of Bridgeport, Connecticut and Dorothy Schlichter of Stuart; four grandchildren, Melissa (Rodney) Sloss, Amanda Schlichter, Julie (Shawn) McKibbin, and Clayton (Clay) Baker; six great grandchildren, Michael Eddy, Breanna Eddy, Nickolas (Nick) Schlichter, Megan Sloss and twins Nora and Sara Sloss; brother, Raymond Schlichter of Branson, Missouri and a host of friends all of whom will miss him greatly.
