Obituary for Norma Jean "Jeannie" Larson
Norma Jean “Jeannie” Larson, 85, of Perry, formerly of Casey passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, April 18th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, April 19th at the Casey United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Dalmanutha Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Norma Jean Larson Memorial Fund, donations will be made to local charities by the family and may be directed to Robert Larson at Rowley Masonic Community Center, PO Box 578, Perry, Iowa 50220. Jeannie was born January 15, 1931 to Harry and Marguerite (Newbanks) Bassett in Casey, Iowa. She grew up in Casey and attended Casey Schools. She graduated from Casey High School with the class of 1948. On May 21, 1950 she was united in marriage to Robert Larson in Casey. To this union they were blessed with four children: Bob, Bill, Beth and Ed. Jeannie worked for two years at the Casey Post Office. Most of her working career was spent at Casey and Adair-Casey Schools serving as a secretary for 35 years. She also took pride in working the scoreboard at A-C football games; where she was featured in the Des Moines Register for her service.

She was a member of the Casey United Methodist Church, a 65 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She belonged to many community organizations over the years, some of which included the Casey Library Board, the Casey Woman’s club, the Stitch and Chatter Club, and the BKYDJ Players, a local theater group. She enjoyed sewing, embroidering, crocheting, reading books and camping, but most of all, she loved spending time with family. Jeannie and Bob took pride in their gardening, and especially loved canning tomatoes, pickles and peaches.

Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister; brother, Larry Bassett; son, Ed Newland; and step-mother, Alice Bassett.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 65 years, Robert; children: Bob (Barb) Larson of Garden City, Kansas; Bill (Linda) Larson of Windsor, Colorado; Beth (Martin) Sunds of Van Meter; daughter-in-law: Carol Newland of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Phil Newland, Paul Newland, Adam (Brooke) Larson, Kyle (Anne) Larson, Kevin (Jill) Larson, Captain Joshua (Allison) Larson, Sara Larson, Connor (Danyelle) Larson, Haley Sunds, and Jared Sunds; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister in law, Jeanette Bassett, niece, Denise Bassett (Kirk Luchman); step sister JoAnn (Marvin) Fett of Adair, step brother Ed Thompson of California; and a host of other family and friends that will miss her dearly.
