Betty Darlene Molln, 94 of Greenfield passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at the Greenfield Nursing and Rehab. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left at wwww.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Betty Darlene Roberts Molln, the only child of James and Flora (Rostat) Roberts, was born in Adair County on March 10, 1927 in the same small farmhouse in which her father was born on July 1, 1895.
Betty joined the Greenfield Presbyterian Church when she was 17 years old and was an active member throughout her life. She enjoyed teaching bible class and had many happy memories of watching children discover our beloved Lord.
After graduating from Greenfield high school, she spent one year teaching in a country school house, then took a job in town at the gas company. She lived in town with a few of her friends and loved her time with them. She told her grandchildren many stories of how she and her roommates would prank each other by short-sheeting each other’s’ beds, and how she loved interacting with the public while working at the gas company.
On September 12, 1948, Betty and Fred Molln were married by the Presbyterian minister in the living room of the same little house in which Betty and her father were born. Because Fred was the bookkeeper of several businesses in Greenfield, they made their home in town until 1958. At that point, Betty’s parents bought a house in Greenfield and turned the farming enterprise over to the next generation. By this time Betty and Fred were blessed with two children, Reginald and Roderic, who were delighted to move to the farm where they rode horses, had a dog and many cats. Life on the farm was very happy for the next 50 years until Fred passed away in 2009.
Betty and Fred were a model of a loving marriage and gave all of their grandchildren many happy memories. Fred was frequently tinkering in his workshop to make toys for them, and Betty was busy in the kitchen, baking fresh bread and cookies, or cooking jams and jellies. We spent many hours playing games and taking trips down memory lane.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, James and Flora (Rostat) Roberts, and her beloved husband, Fred. She is survived by her two sons, Reg (Sandy) and Rick (Kristi); grandchildren Matthew (Christina) Molln, Nicholas Molln, Kelly (Matthew) Smith, and Kyla (Anthony) Heddlesten; five great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
