Chuck grew up in Lorimor and attended Lorimor High School graduating with the class of 1958. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served honorably until his discharge in 1960. While enlisted he served on the USS Hancock near San Francisco. Following his discharge, he returned to Iowa and attended Southwestern Community College in Creston studying Structural Drafting.

On November 12, 1961 he married the love of his life Rose Marie Faux in Winterset. The couple was blessed with three boys: Chuck, Monte and Terry. The family lived in Winterset, Janesville, Wisconsin, Manley, Nebraska, and Patterson before lastly settling in Redfield in 1970. Chuck worked a variety of jobs but most of his working career was spent in the plumbing business.

Chuck was a longtime member of the Redfield American Legion where he enjoyed harassing the guys and playing cribbage. He also spent many hours at the “garage meetings” with friends. He enjoyed trap shooting and camping and loved antique cars especially his 1955 Chevy Bel Air and 1956 Ford Customline.
