Donald was born on April 16, 1934 to Don and Harriett (Miller) Wright in Rural Guthrie County, Iowa. He grew up in the Menlo area and graduated from Menlo High School with the class of 1952. Following gradation he enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a Medic before his honorable discharge in 1957. On March 22, 1958, Donald was united in marriage to Bonnie Wilson in Blair, Nebraska and together they raised three sons: Thomas, Dalton and Devin. After their marriage the family lived in Madrid and Ogden before making their home on the family farmstead north of Menlo in 1975.

Don owned and operated his own construction business, Don Wright Construction in Ogden for 20 years, where he built over 100 homes in the Ogden area. He last worked at Tri Lite Glass in Boone where he retired in 1997. Don raised cattle for many years, this was a hobby he dearly loved throughout the years. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; parents, Don and Harriet Wright; and siblings: Janet Wright, Richard Wright, Deloris Jacobson, Betty Stuglemeyer and Roy Wright.

Don leaves behind his sons: Thomas (Carol) Wright of Quitman, Texas, Dalton (Lori) Wright of Winterset and Devin (Darcy) Wright of Madrid; grandchildren: Peggy Kile, Dyanna (Lloyd) Whistler, Jennifer (Jake) Richards, Mike Wright and Jon (Emily) Wright; great-grandchildren: Ashley Saunders, Kelsey Saunders, Trinity Purden, Cash Sunny and Lillian Wright; siblings: Harold Wright, Linda Powell, Judy Pratt and Mary Costello; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends that will miss him dearly.

The Wright family wishes to express their gratitude for all the acts of kindness shown to them in their time of sorrow, especially to Beverly Wright for all she had done. The family invites you to share a luncheon served at the Menlo Community Center following the services at the cemetery.
