Jennie Rose (Samuell) Miller, of Stuart passed away, August 4, 2017 at the blessed age of 99 at the Stuart Community Care Center. Jennie joined her husband Jacob once again to cut a rug with him. Family will gather at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory prior to the graveside starting at 1:15 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jennie Miller Memorial Fund and may be sent on care of the family to Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Professional Arrangements By: Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory.
Jennie was born to William and Nellie (Derry) Samuell on March 15, 1918 in Panora. Jennie grew up in the Linden and Menlo areas, completing tenth grade. At the age of 18 she married the love of her life, Jacob Miller and they were blessed with two children, Marilyn and Jacob (Jake) Jr. After getting married, they moved to a farm near Monteith then to a farm near Menlo, where they farmed until the fall of 1953. The Miller’s moved into their one and only house in Menlo they bought in 1953.
Jennie worked at the Menlo School as a cook for several years, at Randolph’s Egg in Guthrie Center, AT&T in Des Moines where she counted the money from pay phones and the Des Moines Register. She returned to AT&T and retired from there. After retiring Jennie and Jacob very much enjoyed taking their grandkids on vacations and they participated alongside the kids, laughter abound. Jennie and Jacob danced together every Saturday night at the Menlo Community Building. She was an avid drinker of 7-Up and ate plain m&m’s every day, three pieces at a time.
Jennie lived in Cherokee for several years, which gave her time with her daughter and grandkids that lived there. While living in Cherokee she baby sat for the Burnside family. In 2005, Jennie took up her residency at the Stuart Community Care Center. While there she very much enjoyed bingo, penny pitch, diner’s club, going to tulip time, dominos with family and she still continued her 7-up and m&m’s passion. Jennie was a very kind and extremely patient person. She took every opportunity she could to teach new things to each grandchild.
Jennie is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Jacob, siblings, Fred, Fawn, Howard and Vera; daughter, Marilyn; grandson, Michael and granddaughter Roxanne.
Jennie’s beautiful smile and laughter will be missed by many at the care center.
Jennie is survived by her son, Jacob (Jake) Jr. and her granddaughter, Julie, both of Stuart; Carolyn Miller of Casey; granddaughter, Melinda (Ron) Rosewall and their two children of Marcus; grandson, Bernie (Dawn) Tutt and their four children of Akron; granddaughter, Rashel (Rod) Bark and their two children of Sioux City and a host of friends at the Community Care Center whom will miss her greatly.
In keeping with Jennie’s sense of humor, her love of one liners, “drinking lemon-lime will get you 99”
There will be a gathering of family and friends at 3 P.M. on Monday, August 28th at the Stuart City Park to share stories and continue the celebration of Jennie's life.
