Obituary for Kenneth Gebbie
Kenneth Gebbie, 91, of Stuart passed away on July 19, 2016. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Thursday, July 21st at the First Congregational Church in Stuart. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Friday, July 22nd at the First Congregational Church in Stuart. Burial will be at South Oak Grove Cemetery in Stuart. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kenneth Gebbie Memorial Fund and sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Kenneth Gebbie was born on December 9, 1924 to W.K. and Clara (Norhwehr) Gebbie in Stuart, Iowa. He was raised in Stuart and graduated from Stuart High School with the class of 1943. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After his honorable discharge he was united in marriage to Colleen Alkire in 1946. The couple started farming south of Stuart. They were blessed with two children, Kenneth Duane and Barbara Louise.

Kenneth was a member of the First Congregational Church in Stuart and the Stuart American Legion. In his younger years he was very active in trap shooting, this was a hobby he then began to enjoy after his retirement. He won several competitions and traveled throughout the United States competing. He also enjoyed bowling and fishing. His greatest passion came from farming.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen “Chick”; parents, W.K. and Clara Gebbie; daughter, Barbara Smith; grandson, Jason Smith and sister, Ruth.

Left behind to cherish his memory is his son, Kenneth D. Gebbie of Dexter; granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer Smith and her daughter Kayla of Smithville, Missouri; grandchildren: Kenneth Gebbie Jr. and his children: Kyle, Keegan, Grace and Bradley of Greenfield; Kasey Gebbie and his children: Jonathan and Zackery of Dexter; and Sarah Smith-Burke and her daughters, Addison and Taylor of Chandler, Arizona; sister, Bethene Simmons of California; sister-in-law, Maxine Johnston of Redfield and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends that will all miss him greatly.
