Obituary for Marjorie Oleta Lohafer

Marjorie Oleta Lohafer, 93 of Stuart passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Community Care Center in Stuart. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15th from 5-7 PM, with a memorial service to follow at 7 PM at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Memorial contributions may be directed to Stuart Rescue Unit and/or Stuart Community Care Center and sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com. Professional Arrangements: Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Stuart Chapel.

Marjorie was born August 6, 1923 in Menlo, Iowa. Her parents were Mildred and Allen McNelly. Marjorie was one of six children.

Marjorie was united in marriage to Fred Lohafer on September 14, 1940. To that union two children were born, a son who died at birth and daughter, Sandra Kay Knapp Nolan of Flippen, Arkansas.

Marjorie and Fred lived and ran the Howe grocery store south of Stuart. After leaving the Howe store she moved to Des Moines for a brief period and then moved to Flippen, Arkansas in 1962. Marj and Fred managed a Texaco-Bulk plant in Harrison, Arkansas and owned two Texaco Stations in Flippen and Cotter, Arkansas. They moved to Dallas, Texas and also managed a large mobile home court park at Lake Dallas so she could be closer to her daughter. She worked for Clint Murchinton who was owner of the Dallas Cowboys. She was a tour guide and visited several places while doing that. They retired and moved to Cedar Creek, Texas where they made their home until she moved back to Stuart.

Marj enjoyed making crafts out of drift wood and apple head dolls and sold them at Dollywood. She kept busy always doing something and helping others. She also loved to cheer on her favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys.

Those preceding her in death were her husband Fred; son, Fred Jr.; sister, Betty Hiscocks; brother-in-law, Ted Hiscocks; brother, George; sister, Maxine; son-in-law, Jack Knapp Sr. and Jack Knapp Jr. Michael Shane Knapp.

Those left to mourn her passing are her daughter Sandy Knapp Nolan (Mike), granddaughter, Tammy Smith; great-granddaughter, Geni Kay Knapp; brother, Gary McNelly (Marjorie); sister, Kay Hauf (Mel) and all the friends that she made along the way.

She will be remembered by her pointing her finger and a little wink to her friends at the care center.

God gives us family and friends for only a short time may we enjoy them as long as we can. Some are so easy to love and others are harder, but those are the ones that need the most loving.
