Obituary for Mary Lee Boss
Mary L. Boss, 77, of Stuart, Iowa passed away October 27, 2014 at the Stuart Community Care Center. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 28th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday October 29th at the First Congregational Church in Stuart. Burial will follow the services in Rose Hill Cemetery in Menlo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Boss Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home. Mary was born on November 8, 1936 to Charles and O. Omeda (Eastman) Miller at home in Menlo
Mary attended Menlo Community School, graduating in 1955. The highlight of her high school years was when she and her teammates played in the Iowa State Girls Basketball Tournament. On October 9, 1955 she was united in marriage to Glenn Boss and to this union 5 children were born.
Mary worked hard on the family farm, always growing a large garden to help feed her family. She also spent many years in the nursing field and as a restaurant cook. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing cards and doing sewing work such as quilting, embroidery and crocheting. She loved watching sports of all kinds, but especially if the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bulls or St. Louis Cardinals were playing.
Mary was an amazing cook, great friend, wonderful mother and beloved “Grammy” who will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter Cindy; brothers and sister-in-law Tom, Glen & Agnes, Charles and Robert Miller; sisters and brothers-in-law Hazel & Claire Derry, Ruth & Ferry Knight, Jean & Fred Hull, Deanna Miller, Kay Still, Myrna Teach, Dean & Robert Egger.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Glenn; children: David (Barb) Boss, Andrew (Becky) Boss, Brenda (David) Vyrostek all of Stuart, Connie Boss and partner Diana Pastor of Des Moines; sisters and brothers-in-law: Helen Egger, Bonnie (Warren) Garwood, Judy (Richard) Ford, John Still and Jim Teach; sister-in-law Reba Miller; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
