Maxine C. Hadley, 100 of Stuart, formerly of Dexter passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at the Community Care Center in Stuart. Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 28th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial with full military honors will be at the Dexter Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Dexter United Methodist Church and/or local food pantries in Maxine’s name. Maxine Clarice Hadley, daughter of Mack and Mildred (Trent) Schell was born May 24, 1920 in Guthrie County, Dale City Iowa and passed away Sunday, December 20th, 2020 in Stuart, Iowa. She attended Redfield School to fifth grade. Moved to Dexter where she finished school and graduated.
She joined the Navy (Waves) in 1944 and served as a secretary to a surgeon at Bureau of Med and Surgery in Washington, D.C.
Upon discharge she returned to Dexter and attended Cosmetology School. She owned and operated the Dexter Beauty Salon for 41 years then continued to work part time for Biz Barnhouse another 9 years.
She was united in marriage to John Hadley on April 19, 1958 and they made their home in Dexter.
In January 1964 John and Maxine took Maxine’s nephew, Richard Wolfe to care for after the death of his parents in a car accident.
She was a lifetime member of the Dexter United Methodist Church, a Sunday School teacher for many years and a member of the choir.
She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary Post #419.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband John, her Parents, the nephew she raised Richard Wolfe, sister Kathleen Love and brother Leland Schell.
She is survived by Peggy Wolfe, grandchildren Steven Wolfe and Kathy (Kelly) Loveall, great-grandchildren, Brittany(Bricen) Green, Cheyenne Loveall (Erik May), Payton Wolfe, Quinton Wolfe, Remington Wolfe, great-great-grandchildren Hadley Green, Harper Green, Eliza May, Nephew Nick Love, Niece Carol (Bob) Cook, and many great nephews and nieces, cousins, numerous friends and her Church family.
