Roger "Haney" Caltrider, 70, of rural Casey passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022 at the Community Care Center in Stuart. A private family graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Menlo. Celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to A Heinz 57 Pet Rescue in DeSoto and/or the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Haney as he was better known to family and friends was born on December 31, 1951 to Howard and Virginia (Nelson) Caltrider in Greenfield. He grew up outside of Menlo on the family farm and attended Menlo Schools graduating with the class of 1970. Following graduation, as a show of unity with other local boys he enlisted in the National Guard. Following his discharge he returned to the Menlo area and began farming with his family. He was skilled in both livestock production and row crop farming. Haney was a longtime fixture in the hog showing arena winning four grand championships with four different breeds at the Iowa State Fair. Haney was a skilled auctioneer. He mentored many youth in showing hogs on the 4-H circuit and was a longtime member of the Iowa Pork Producers, American Yorkshire Association and the US Swine Registry.
On May 16, 1991 he was united in marriage to Lynne Sienknecht and the couple made their home north of Casey. In his spare time, Haney enjoyed hunting deer and pheasant; attending hog shows and sales and going to watch Van Meter athletic events.
He leaves behind his wife, Lynne; children: Kristel Howell and Tyler Sienknecht; grandchildren: Gabriella, Ava and Sunshine; brother, Gary (Donna) Caltrider; brother-in-law, Merrill Adams; nieces and nephews: Terry (Dawn) Adams, Kristi West, Kevin (Brenda) Adams, Kelly (Tracy) Foster and Kurt (Linda) Caltrider; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
