Obituary for Steven Eugene Hutchins
Steven Eugene Hutchins, 58, of Stuart, Iowa passed away Sunday, August 18, 2019 at the Unity Point - Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Stuart Chapel. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 22, 2019 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Stuart Chapel. Burial will follow the service in Dexter City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Steven Hutchins Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Steve was born December 4, 1960 in Dexter, Iowa to Lloyd Edwin and Joy Louise (Townsend) Hutchins. He grew up in the Stuart area and attended Stuart-Menlo until his sophomore year and graduated his junior year from Adel High School with the class of 1978. During his high school years, Steve enjoyed wrestling. After graduating, Steve attended Lincoln Nebraska Tech, where he studied heavy Equipment and participated in a certified automotive train program. He also attended Drake University. Steve served in the United States Air Force from 1979-1983 where he worked with heavy equipment and received jet engine training. Following his military service, Steve went to work for Richards & Son Construction of Adel as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. He also worked for Seneca Transport in Des Moines where he was employed as a mechanic and assistant foreman, and at Stuart Pelgas. He had also worked for Denny Draman at DWD. In March of 1989, Steve opened up his own business call Service Specialties and worked on heavy equipment and even ran had a on-site welding shop. He was united in marriage to Diane Lynn Cummings on March 20, 1982 at the First Congregational Church in Stuart. Following their marriage, they lived in Adel for 18 years before moving back to the Stuart area to make their home. He enjoyed building model airplanes and cars, working in the garage with his brother Ron and brother-in-law Gary Wayne, and helping Dean Williams out at Williams Repair Shop.

He is preceded by his parents, Lloyd and Joy, brother, Dwaine Hutchins and sister, Tina Hutchins.

Left behind to cherish his memory, is his beloved wife, Diane Hutchins and their furbabies of the home; brother, Ron (Pat) Hutchins of Stuart; nieces, Janice Greever (Rob), Red Oak and Lisa Hutchins of Oklahoma; nephew, Jason Hutchins of Oklahoma sister-in-law, Peggy Hutchins of Oklahoma; uncle, Ed (Dorothy) Hutchins of Redfield and numerous cousins and friends all of whom will miss him greatly.
