Susan Rae Connors passed away peacefully on January 5th, 2023, from Alzheimer’s Disease.
Susan was born on February 9th, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa and was the only child of Ray Connors and
Ada McCollum.
Susan graduated from East High School and soon after married Don Stifel. Susan and Don had four
children together and raised their family in Waukee, Iowa.
While raising the children, Susan was a homemaker and talented seamstress, managing her own
business Stuff’n Things, known most notably for her signature handmade handkerchief pillows.
After her kids were grown, she worked at an employment placement agency and eventually retired in
2008.
Susan’s favorite things were spending time with her family, traveling, shopping, collecting antiques and
spoiling her grandkids and grand dogs.
Everyone who knew Susan will remember her for her quick-witted sense of humor and her smile that
always brightened a room, even in her final days.
Susan is survived by her four children, Dan Stifel (Kathy) of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Dave Stifel (Luci) of
West Des Moines, Iowa, Krista Deskin (Tim) of Waukee, Iowa, and Jennifer Lutz of Hartland, Wisconsin,
and was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Special thanks to the care givers at St. Croix Hospice who took exceptional care of Susan and her family
in her final months.
Donations can be made in Susan’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association or any animal shelter in need.
