Obituary for Sylvia L. Williams
Sylvia L. Williams, 93, of Stuart passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the Community Care Center in Stuart. Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, September 12th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Luncheon will be held at Fairview Church in Stuart following the service. Private family graveside service will be held at South Oak Grove Cemetery in Stuart. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Sylvia Williams Memorial Fund and sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, IA 50250. Sylvia was born August 11, 1923 in the Colton, South Dakota to Clyde and May Wilder Lawson. For several years, the family lived in the Black Hills where she and her siblings, roamed the hills and woods. When she was 7, the family moved to the Lawson family farm south of Dexter. She attended country school up to the eighth grade and then graduated from Dexter High School. Through her school years, Sylvia enjoyed playing basketball and was the drum major. After high school, Sylvia attended secretarial school in Des Moines. She was united in marriage to Hayden “Bud” Williams on June 16, 1943 and together they became the proud parents of two boys, Gary and Ron. After their marriage they made their home on a farm south of Stuart. Sylvia and her husband farmed and raised cattle, hogs and chickens for over 50 years before retiring. Sylvia was a longtime member of the Fairview Congregational Church and served many years within the Ladies Aide. She was always willing to volunteer her time at the church when needed and for many years baked many of the wedding cakes. She also belonged to Bass Masters for many years. Her enjoyments included, fishing, playing cards with her friends, watching sporting events especially the Minnesota Twins and the Kansas City Chiefs, spending time with her family and traveling. Together she and Bud traveled to all 50 states and Europe.
She is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Bud, on October 3, 2008, son, Ronald, siblings, Esther Mapes, Robert Lawson, Fred Lawson, Gene Lawson, Roy Lawson and Ruth Hill.
Sylvia leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Gary (Mandi) Williams of Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Jason Williams of Lucerne, California, Melody Leuschner of Zimmerman, Minnesota, Stevie McCartney of Dallas, Texas, and Dr. Jessie Williams of Dallas, Texas; great grandchildren, Chelsea Leuschner of Zimmerman, Minnesota, and Aidan and Bowie McCartney of Dallas, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews and friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
