Obituary for Velda Marie Groover
Velda Marie Groover, 89, of Redfield passed away Sunday, July 21, 2019 at the Adel Acres in Adel, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at the Redfield United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the Redfield United Methodist Church. A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow the service at the Redfield American Legion Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Velda Groover Memorial Fund. Velda was born June 26, 1930 in rural Guthrie County, Iowa to Don Marlenee and Helen Marie (Cluts) Marlenee Wolfe. Her early years were spent in Dale City and Morrisburg before the family moved to Redfield where she graduated with the class of 1947. Following graduation, Velda started working at the Dallas County Bank, where she worked until her retirement. She did have a stent where she worked as the City Clerk of Redfield and as the Secretary of the Redfield United Methodist Church. Velda was united in marriage to Howard Warren Groover on May 13 th , 1950 at the Little Brown Church. Too this union five children were born, Linda, Christie, Donna, Craig and Kent. Velda was a longtime attendee of the Redfield United Methodist Church, lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she held many offices including President and Treasurer, was a member and the treasurer of the Redfield Development Committee, Redfield Senior Center where she took care of the books, helped for many years at the Redfield American Legion breakfasts, and was very active within the Redfield community. She enjoyed baking cookies for the Redfield Depot, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Don Marlenee and Helen Marlenee Wolfe, her beloved husband, Howard in 2005, son, Kent in 2000, brother, John Wolfe and sister, Mary Cupp.
Velda leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Linda (Art) Bruegger of Chicago, Illinois, Christie (Ed) Dwyer of Dexter, Iowa, Donna Stodden of Stuart, Iowa and Craig (Terri) Groover; 10 grandchildren, Emily (Justin) Moree of Chicago, Illinois, Alison Bruegger of Chicago, Illinois, Joe (Brandy) Dwyer of Dexter, Iowa, Andy Dwyer of Redfield, Iowa, Katie (Brett) Stender of Greenfield, Iowa, Sam Dwyer of Stuart, Jaime Dwyer of Ft. Myers, FL, Jennifer Meuser of Des Moines, Jason (Shannon) Belgarde of Adel, Iowa, Graham Groover of Des Moines and Megan Groover of Austin, Texas; 7 great grandchildren, Ella Moree, Joseph Dwyer, Daniel Dwyer, Oliver Stender, Michaela Herr, Taylor Belgarde, Declan Belgarde and Delany Belgarde; and a Great-great grandson, Malik; siblings, Norma (Steve) Sutton and Jerry (Linda) Wolfe and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
