Virginia was born April 25, 1927 to Ernest and Clara (Bangert) Haines at the family home near Redfield. She attended country schools before attending Redfield High School, where she graduated with the class of 1944. Following graduation she took a job at the Brickyard and later the Soy Bean Mill. On November 9, 1946 she was united in marriage to Gerald Harvey in Panora, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Marcia, Richard, Robert and Barbara. The family made their home on the farmstead where the couple lived until recently.

Virginia was a member of the Stuart-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, UMW and PEO. Virginia was very active in the Church Choir for many years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and watching birds. She loved traveling to visit relatives and working on genealogy. Virginia and Gerald played in several card groups together. She was always looking forward to her next practical joke on her friends and loved ones.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.

Virginia leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 68 years, Gerald; children: Marcia Ward of Florida, Richard (Jacci) Harvey of Clive, Robert (Ruth) Harvey of Rural Redfield and Barbara Harvey of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Mike Anthony, Jon (Shelly) Anthony, Philip (Heather) Anthony, Katie (Rick) Harvey-Martinez and Caroline Harvey; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Couch; and a host of other family and friends that will miss her dearly.
