Obituary for Ernest Russell Little
Ernest Russell “Ernie” Little, 85, of Stuart formerly of Menlo, Iowa passed way September 4, 2015 at the Stuart Community Care Center in Stuart. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Stuart-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. A Military Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 12, in Rosehill Cemetery in Menlo. Memorial contributions can be made to the Ernie Little Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Ernie as he was known by family and friends, was born on the family farm on January 13, 1930 to Jacob and Lottie (Draman) Little. He was raised in the Harrison Township and graduated from Stuart High School with the class of 1948. Following High School, Ernie helped his father on the family farm. He enlisted into the United States Army in 1952 and proudly served his county during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged in 1954, Ernie was united in marriage to Vivian Bassett at the Menlo United Methodist Church. Together they became the proud parents of two children, Melinda and Steven. After their marriage, Ernie and Vivian moved to Kansas City, and during this time, Ernie attended Airline School and worked for Braniff Airlines. They later moved to Des Moines where Ernie worked for Iowa Power and Light and once again helped his father on the farm. In 1962, Ernie and Vivian made their home in Menlo and Ernie began his career in Banking. He worked for the Security State Bank for 24 years as Vice President before retiring. Ernie was a member of the Menlo United Methodist Church and served as a trustee for several years. Other memberships included, Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, Guthrie County Bankers Association, Guthrie County Youth Association, served on the Menlo city Council for several years, IOOF, Menlo Fire Department, and served on the Coon Valley Telephone Board. After his retirement, Ernie and Vivian enjoyed the summers at their lake home on Ten Mile Lake in Hackensack Minnesota, fishing, hunting, flying and woodworking.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Jacob and Lottie Little, one sister, Melba Compton and niece, Pam Easterlie.
Ernie leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Vivian of Stuart; children, Melinda (Paul) Hendricks, of Charlottesville, Virginia and Steven (Laura) Little of Menlo, Iowa; grandchildren Curtis (Amanda) Little and their children, Skylar, Dylan and Gabrielle of Dexter, Iowa and Sarah (Mike) Johnson and their children, Emma, Kaitlin, Abigail and Clara of Stuart, Iowa and a host of friends all of whom will miss him greatly.
