Obituary for Sandra Sue Wardyn
Sandra Sue Wardyn, 69, daughter of Leo & Verda Hebing, was born on October 21, 1950 in Atlantic, Iowa. She passed away peacefully on December 4, 2019, surrounded by love from her family and friends.

Sandra went to country school from first through sixth grade, and then attended Oakland High School, graduating in 1968. She married Richard Lee Wardyn in 1970 and started a family shortly thereafter.

Sandra worked at Mutual of Omaha following graduation and later held many different jobs- cook at the local high school, elderly care giver, day care provider for her grandkids, and housekeeper at Lake Panorama. Throughout her career, she was always helping others.

Among her many hobbies, sewing was one of her favorites. She made many blankets and wall hangings for her kids and grandchildren over the years, always putting in the extra thought and effort to make each piece special and tailored to its recipient. She shared this hobby with her sister, Cheryl Eischeid. Sandra had an amazing green thumb, her house full of a wide variety of house plants. She loved everything Elvis, horses, dancing, going fishing with her grandkids, traveling to see her siblings, reading mystery novels with her daughter, Shylo. A frequent gambler, she was one of the few that always seemed to come out ahead of the house. She was a very proud and happy Grandma Sam, or Gram Cracker, as she was lovingly called. Grandma Sam enjoyed attending many sporting events and activities to watch her grandkids play the games they loved.

Sandra is survived by five children- Jennifer (Kevin) Berger of Guthrie Center, Jamie (Jessica) Wardyn of Ankeny, Nikki (Lonnie) Carrick of Guthrie Center, Dustin (Chelsie Kopaska) Wardyn of Guthrie Center, Shylo Wardyn (Jesse Riordan) of Iowa City; her siblings- Ron (Vickie) Hebing of Council Bluffs, Cheryl Eischeid of Bayard, IA, Doyle (Ronnda Kuhr) Hebing of Edgar Springs, MO, Randall (Judy)Hebing of Red Cloud, NE, & Mike (Marilyn) Hebing of Oakland, IA; 13 grandchildren -MacKenzie (Chad) Herron, Jared Berger (Joci Smith), Madison Berger, Caden Wardyn, Jadeyn Carrick, Kennade Wardyn, Clayton Wardyn, Ashton Carrick, Sawyer Wardyn, and Max, Rhys, & Leo Riordan; 1 great-grandchild, Charlotte Herron, & many cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Sandra is preceded in death by her infant son, Jamie Matthew in 1971; her parents; her brother Marvin; her brother in law, Leon Eischeid and her husband of 49 years, Dick. She was joined in death by her granddaughter, Emma Riordan, on December 8th. Sandra was small, but feisty and always had a smile on her face. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
